TAYLOR, Mich., Sept. 9, 2009 — Atlas Oil Company announces the opening of its new Albuquerque, New Mexico rail fuel transfer terminal. Co-located at the BNSF Railway yard, the new Atlas terminal is capable of handling 9 rail tankers for off loading ethanol. Atlas will initially be providing ethanol and transportation services to a major oil company/refiner who currently ships ethanol into New Mexico via tank truck from Texas.
This Albuquerque rail transloading facility is part of a broader strategic expansion for Atlas Oil into ethanol transloading. Atlas anticipates creating or acquiring 10-15 additional ethanol transloading facilities over the next several years.
This new rail terminal will reduce the need for tank truck shipments into the Albuquerque market, reducing both traffic congestion and green house gas emissions. Atlas is also investigating the viability of supplying additional types of fuel through this terminal as it expands its operations.
“Atlas is very happy to be able to help meet New Mexico’s green fuel blending requirements” said Mike Evans, Executive Vice President, Business Development, Atlas Oil Company. “Working with our customers, BNSF and the City of Albuquerque to get this project completed in such a short period of time really highlights everyone’s commitment to being both environmentally friendly and economically sensitive to the needs of consumers. We’re also very grateful for the warm welcome we’ve received as we make this first step into New Mexico and the Southwest,” added Evans.
