DETROIT – Challenge Detroit, an initiative to attract and retain top talent for economic revitalization in Detroit, is now accepting applications for its fall program for individuals wanting to make an impact on the city.
“When we started Challenge Detroit, we knew if we could keep talent here while attracting new talent, they would come, they would stay and they would make an impact. To date, 90 percent of Fellows have stayed in Detroit for the year following their program, and 10 have started their own ventures, “ says Deirdre Greene Groves, executive director of Challenge Detroit. “Challenge Detroit’s model of intellectual giving allows Fellows to make an impact while also challenging themselves in the process.”
Challenge Detroit provides applicants a chance to live in an urban setting, work at a leading area company, experience the cultural aspects of the city, partner with nonprofits to make an impact through an innovative intellectual giving model, and participate in leadership development programming.
Since the program launch in 2012, Challenge Detroit has generated $3 million in economic development, given more than 2,000 service hours in and around the city, and provided more than $500,000 in in-kind intellectual services to Challenge Detroit nonprofit partners.
Challenge Detroit will select approximately 30 innovative individuals from Detroit and across the country to:
- Engage in monthly team challenges based on intellectual giving, in partnership with area nonprofits, designed to positively impact the city and region;
- Work at one of the top companies in the region;
- Receive a $36,000 annual salary plus benefits typical of host company;
- Live in the city of Detroit;
- Participate in a leadership development program; and
- Receive perks such as memberships to various organizations, discounts, event access and more.
