Team Schostak Family Restaurants, a Livonia-based family-owned restaurant group, is slated to open its first Applebee’s in Detroit on Monday, making it the first national casual dining chain outside of the city’s central business district.
As part of the opening, Team Schostak will host a one-day Dine to Donate event to benefit Gleaners Community Food Bank of southeastern Michigan.
“This grand opening of our City of Detroit Applebee’s is a milestone event for Team Schostak Family Restaurants as we look to continue leading the way in the restaurant industry both locally and nationally,” says Mark Schostak, executive chairman. “Expanding our Applebee’s presence to the City of Detroit, and delivering a true neighborhood grill and bar dining experience to those who live and work in the community, has been a top priority for our company since we purchased the Michigan Applebee’s in 2012.”
Earlier this year, Team Schostak announced plans to bring the City of Detroit its first Applebee’s restaurant, located at 2111 W. Eight Mile Rd. Construction of the 5,815-square-foot restaurant began in June. The restaurant will feature the brand’s new and improved layout designed to elevate the dining experience for guests, including high-rise ceilings, an expanded bar area, more televisions, and larger windows to provide more natural light, as well as décor and painted murals specific to the City of Detroit community. The location will be comprised of more than 100 salary and hourly-level employees.
Team Schostak will donate 10 percent of all guests’ food sales from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the City of Detroit Applebee’s to Gleaners Community Food Bank. The funds collected will be earmarked to help purchase millions of pounds of food for people in need as the nonprofit distributes nutritional, high quality food and reduce reliance on the emergency food system through education and advocacy.
